For adventurous cruisers visiting the ends of the world in Antarctica, the Drake Crossing is equal parts exciting and terrifying, having a side of green mixed in. Because of Silversea Cruises, there is now a choice to consider a two-hour flight, running a business class believe it or not, as opposed to the nausea-inducing crossing.
The new fly cruise service to Antarctica may be the first within the ultra-luxury cruise market, and it is part of the largest Antarctica offering in Silversea’s history.

As part of the new Antarctica Bridge program, the flights will operate from Punta Arenas in Chile to King George Island, with the private plane adapted to land on the area. The aircraft, exclusive to Silversea guests, will land in the Chilean base of Presidente Frey, used by scientists en route to the island's research stations.

While flying a bespoke entertainment program will brief guests round the adventure ahead. And what a journey it will likely be, travelling deep into Antarctica, along with a team of expedition experts. Silversea is offering an accumulation of 12 fly-cruise voyages aboard Silver Explorer, with Conrad Combrink, Silversea's Senior Vice President of Tour Operating, Expedition & Destination Management, saying it's a defining moment for Silversea's expedition offering which Antarctica Bridge will revolutionise how Silversea guests discover Antarctica.
“The luxury of preference is really a key feature in our cruise line's offering; our new Antarctica Bridge service expands our guests' choices. Many will still choose to cross the epic Drake Passage, which is a memorable experience with itself, but Antarctica Bridge is fantastic for time-conscious travellers, as it will immerse guests to the White Continent in the shorter timeframe. This develops our existing offering, which comprises many 10-day voyages, as well as 18-day expeditions and longer, what are ultimate in deep exploration. With the launch of Antarctica Bridge, our guests can choose from 59 Antarctica voyages,” Mr Combrink said.

Guests travelling with Silversea will marvel in the sights and experiences of King George Island, Antarctic Sound, the Antarctic Peninsula and also the South Shetland Islands, with Zodiac tours, shore experiences, kayaking tours, and lectures round the region's fascinating geology, wildlife and history.
