The Tasmanian town of Launceston scored top points because of its “fresh produce, renowned sparkling wine and resolve for great food.”
The winners in the 2022 Aussie Capital of scotland- the Year Awards are just announced, offering local and international travellers fantastic destination inspiration across the nation.
Compiled by travel site Wotif, the awards analyse the site’s data index that looks at accommodation affordability, quality and traveller satisfaction.
For the first time inside the awards’ five-years, Tasmania has made the number one just right the list. The town of Launceston impressed travellers using its outdoors, delicious culinary offerings and atmosphere of relaxation.
“Launceston's fresh produce, renown sparkling wine and resolve for great your meals are world-famous with some of Tasmania's most spectacular natural landmarks just a short drive away, such as the Tamar Valley, Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park as well as the Bay of fireside, it's no wonder that demand for the town has exploded by over 125% on Wotif.com,” says Wotif Md Daniel Finch.
“Offering great affordability, with an average daily accommodation rate of $160 in 2022, several new hotels in the city and endless experiences available, a vacation to Launceston is evenly worth the hype.”
The island state has witnessed a renewed fascination with tourism recently, 21% of Aussies saying their need to visit Tasmania has grown within the last 12 months, based on Wotif’s research.
Towns in Queensland, Victoria and Nsw scored multiple spots on the list. Second place visited Caloundra, a coastal town in east Queensland recognized for its beautiful surf, ocean pools and crystal-clear waterways.
Tamworth in New South Wales took home third place, an innovative hub renowned because of its annual Tamworth New bands Festival.
